The Joys of a Lazy Saturday (Day 27)

Today was another good day can you believe it!  That’s three days in a row now; where did cranky, moody, restless, tired, depressed, crying Liz disappear to?!  (Wherever it is, I hope she stays there!)

I woke at nearly 9 am, quite late for me, having optimistically set my alarm for 8 am.  However my weary body had other ideas so I dozed on and off for an hour hitting snooze every ten minutes.

Finally, realizing I’d only be annoyed with myself if I stayed in bed any longer, I got up and made tea for myself and the peaceful sleeping beauty (Alex).

We had the house to ourselves for the morning, a rare treat, and we pottered around hoovering, cleaning, doing the laundry.

At eleven I made fresh coffee thanks to my Mum’s nifty little espresso machine – my first home-made coffee in several weeks and it tasted amazing.  But then, I am a coffee addict and there followed some giddy wrestling with Alex because we were both hyper.  And because it’s hilarious to watch a grown man wriggling and squirming as you tickle him.

Afterwards, while in the shower I decided to scrub the somewhat ‘icky’ non-slip mat and got so lost in the process that Alex came in to check on me.

Finally, we cooked omelettes for lunch and they were the lightest, tastiest omelettes I’ve had in a long time, golden brown on the outside with tomatoes, onions and spices on the inside, a sprinkling of cheddar on top… mmm, perfection.

For the afternoon, Alex and I decided to head out for a walk in the woods for some earthy recharging.

We brought the two ‘fluff meisters’ along (my parents’ adorable shetland sheepdogs) and drove twenty minutes west to the tiny town of Kilmurry, where you can wander through proper Irish woodland full of giant trees, soft mossy earth and views of the hills in the distance.

It was especially lovely today as the soft light of early sunset bathed the land in a golden glow and we had the place mostly to ourselves, bar the odd human and his dog.

We hiked uphill at the start, getting breathless while we chatted (and while Alex smoked a rollie!) and then strolled leisurely back down, looping around and reach the car 40 minutes later.

The entire event was topped off with red velvet cake and tea back home.

For a lazy Saturday, this one was bursting with sunshine, housework, good food, companionship, nature, coffee and cake…

Yup – a good, goooood day.

Ciao darlings!
