Dearest readers of Coffee and Scribbles, I need some assistance from you all.
See, I’m doing a three-week course at the moment to help people with creative businesses and a question we had to answer on day one was why do we do what we do: why do I write and why do I want to earn money from it?
Answering that bit was easy enough but when I was prompted as to why people would want to read my stuff and what specifically I wanted to share with others, I couldn’t come up with a solid answer.
So this is where I need your help.
I need to know, why on earth do you like to read what I write??
Are they relatable? Are they funny? Are they interesting because I have an Indian husband or because I’ve travelled or because I share philosophical musings?
Are there certain things I write about (i.e. India or funny daily incidents) that you’d like me to write more?
I realize that most of my posts here have been pretty random scribbles but that was a part of the project just to get me writing regularly about anything and everything and see where it might lead. Eventually, I would like to focus in on some topics and blog a little less often but with more detail around those subjects.
It would be absolutely awesome if you could leave a comment and share why you read my posts and what in particular you’d like me to write about.
On a side-note I was in a shitty mood all day today and when I tried to do something positive and go for a cycle, I’d barely left the garden before my bike careered into the middle of the road and I tumbled off in front of a (slowly-approaching) car.
I was totally fine besides wanting to die with mortification; is there anything more embarrassing than falling on your ass in front of people???
(If there is I hope it never happens to me.)
Ciao darlings!

This may not actually be helpful, but I like to read your blog because engaging in your life journey in this bite size way helps lift me from the narrow focus on my own day to day, and also to feel a connection given I rarely get to see you in person!
In the first instance I think what really hooked me in was your posting about yoga as I was a new yogi myself and was eager to learn about someone else’s experience. But now I enjoy all your stories and how open you are about, well, everything – you’re very relatable Liz!

Aw thanks for that CJ, that’s actually great feedback. It’s always a bit more interesting when you know the person, but if there’s something more to it as well – like being really relatable, or funny, or interesting – then it means people who don’t know me may get something out of it too. Thanks for your email too, it was great to hear about all the stuff you’ve been up to!

I read your blog for the connection with someone else who’s being real, not putting on the perfect e-face that makes the rest of us feel inadequate. If you start trying to be deliberately funny or tell about your travels just to be interesting, rather than that’s what you’re thinking about today, you’ll be a different person.

Interesting perspective and thanks for the feedback. I guess I feel the need to find a more focussed topic so that I can post regularly on it and gradually build a following of people who are interested in that field (eg yoga, jewellery, travel etc). It’s hard otherwise to “market” yourself and ultimately, to make money out of writing – or anything – you do need to have a specific, if not a unique, selling point, like writing loads about India, or travel in India, or my experience with yoga etc. For now I am really enjoying writing these daily posts and delighted that some of you guys are interested enough to read them. I’m sure as I go, I’ll start to find a few subjects that I might write about more consistently. Onwards and upwards!
