Coffee and Scribbles

Purple Nails (because you’re worth it) (Day 5)

It’s interesting how such a small thing can make you feel so good.  As I’ve mentioned in my previous daily scribbles, I’m a pretty low-maintenance girl; I prefer spending my money on travel/books/coffee so manicures, facials and visits to the hair salon are minimal.

Coffee and Scribbles

Selfies, Trends and French Ladies (Day 4)

What is it with the trend these days of selfies, of documenting every single aspect of your life on social media, from what you ate for breakfast to what you’re wearing to your current mood… Isn’t it weird? I understand how it makes special stories out of the mundane – if you’ve ever watched a […]

Chocolate Santa and You Snooze You Lose (Day 2)

Day two of a brand new year and I can reveal that my new year resolutions have already fallen flat on their faces, with several resounding SPLATS. A few examples… Cut down on sweet foods Yesterday I scoffed an entire chocolate Santa – gobbled up the entire thing.  Felt ill and repulsed towards the end […]

Why I’m Vegetarian

I believe the violence and suffering involved in the meat industry is quite horrific and utterly unnecessary. Too many times I have seen documentaries and video footage of the appalling treatment of live animals within animal farms and it literally makes me sick to my stomach. I cannot support this kind of cruelty when there […]

Pre-Wedding chaos and making amends…

The mum of this home, Akila, is by far the quietest and shyest of the three sisters-in-law; tiny […]

Going for a stroll… adrenaline-junkie-style!

I used to think I was being lazy in Jaipur, when hanging around for lifts or taking tuc-tucs everywhere I went. To be fair, a lot of the time I’ve been here in the brain-frying temperatures of 48 degrees celcius in which just thinking is hard-going, never mind taking a walk in the sun. But […]

My Indian family

After a day and a half hanging around the scrappy streets of Paharganj, it’s time to make a move. Today’s January 2nd and Alex’s niece Fiza is getting married on the 4th, so we’ve got to get to Jaipur. As ever, when travelling with my husband we go in style as opposed to sticking to […]

India you old tease… it’s good to be back!

We’re speeding through the dark sky, roughly somewhere over Russia, when Alex suddenly turns to me. “Oh darling, it’s midnight in India! Happy New Year!” He grins and lifts up his little plastic glass of red wine to clink mine. “Happy New Year to you too sweetheart! Cheers!” We continue munching on our surprisingly tasty […]
