How to fall in love with your life….

It’s really quite simple. (Which isn’t the same as easy, by the way.)

The key to falling in love and not falling back out of it is this:

Pay attention.

When you pay attention, you’ll actually notice the incredible scent of wisteria wafting on the gentle May breeze or the ferns curled up tightly like deep green snails.

You’ll giggle at the outrageous gossip of the white-haired ladies across from you in the cafe and return the easy smile of the chilled out bus driver as you pay for your ticket.

You’ll spot the red-faced screaming child in the back of the car behind you your heart will soften slightly towards its driver who’s honking angrily at you.

When you pay attention, you’ll see the story of your life in the grooves and lines that mark your unique face; the sun spots that tell of delicious barefoot holidays in the Mediterranean; the squidgy crinkly belly that once expanded enough to allow another human enter the world; the spider’s web of delicate veins that evidence years of service from your legs, holding you up and taking you wherever you desired…

You’ll hear an old love-story still going strong in the sound of your husband’s snores in the bed beside you (and keep that tale alive by moving gently to the soothing silence of the couch in the living room).

You’ll feel the utter vulnerability in a toddler’s tyrannical demands or a teenager’s moody silences.

You’ll feel the aching beauty of life as that oh so special human grows too big for the nest you built them, spreads their wings and inevitably flies off to create their own life story.

You’ll fall in love with the struggle and the sadness, the joy and the delight…

You’ll fall in love with the ever-evolving, eternally shape-shifting mystery we call this life of ours.

You’ll fall in love with it all because your heart and your mind are finally paying attention and can feel the subtle magic that infuses every moment lived with deep awareness.

Start with just one moment of focussed attention today and let your love-story gradually unfold in all its glory.
