I’m still a day behind with posting – today I may just catch up but here’s yesterday’s scribble that I wrote and never got a chance to publish!
I’ve probably bored away so many of you at this stage with two posts in a row all about getting my little munchkin to sleep. So I reckon it doesn’t really matter if I make it three in a row, huh?
I knew Thursday night had, in a sense, been too good to be true. Or maybe Bowie was slightly off yesterday, or he picked up on the slight nerves I felt while putting him to bed, or, you know, maybe four days in, he was still just learning this whole new thing of falling asleep without the boob and finding it tough going.
Whatever the reason, it took a challenging forty-five minutes for him to get off, once I put him down at 6.30 pm. He then woke again an hour later, needing almost an hour of much comforting and reassurance to get him to fall back asleep.
Oh crap, I thought, we’ve regressed. Is it going to be two steps forward, one step back all the way?
Not quite. Six hours later he was still fast asleep at 3 am and my boobs were like rocks on my chest, ready to pop. It was nine hours since his last feed, NINE! I had already gotten up around 1.30 am to express some milk and for some relief but it wasn’t enough for boobies that had spent the past month or so drip-feeding Bowie hourly throughout the night.
The second he showed some signs of stirring, I decided to pick him up and give him a feed, whether he was looking for it or not.
The little legend settled quickly and easily afterwards, as did I! We had some more difficulties around 5.30 am when he woke up and couldn’t seem to get back to sleep. I tried to help him back but by the time 6 am arrived I decided sod it, let’s just get the day started.
He’d already done so good, sleeping a solid six hours from 9 pm – 3 am and managing yet again with just one feed in the whole night. I figured that was good enough.
The best thing, though, and the biggest sign of progress by far was this: at 8.30 am when both of us were already fading, I decided to chance giving him his first nap in the bed, rather than the sling or buggy as I normally do. And he did it! Within just ten minutes, he was gone, with me close behind him. Magic.
What tonight will bring, I don’t know, but fingers crossed, he’ll continue to improve and my boobs won’t actually explode if he goes a long stretch again after his night-time feed. We’ll see.
In other news, in case you’re interested, there isn’t any really. This sleep-stuff is all-consuming! But tomorrow, I’m sure, will bring something a little different to my scribbles.
Ciao darlings!
