Summer Sun (Day 109)

I put this off til late and now I’m tired and I just want to go to bed already.

Lazy Lizzie.

It seems that summer is currently paying us a visit in Cork with a predicted heat-wave to hit us this weekend (bear in mind that a heat-wave in Ireland is when you hang your laundry out to dry and it’s done that same afternoon).

This evening was a real treat as I sat outside with a beer in the balmy sun, reading my book to the sounds of kids playing in the park across the river.

Alex joined me just when the sun hid behind some clouds and it suddenly switched to Baltic temperatures with me regretting my lack of woolly socks.

However it wasn’t long til the sun was back out and I was scampering around the grass barefoot, chasing the dogs and giggling like a little child.

As we sat inside later to eat dinner and the sun was setting in a warm fuzzy haze that made me think of one thing only: long hot summer evenings… usually somewhere like Spain or Italy.

Alas, dear Ireland, our lovely Emerald Isle, is not best known for hot sunny days, shorts and t-shirts or barbecues; more like cold grey skies, wellies and hot mugs of tea.  And only a couple days ago that’s what we were all dealing with.

But we’ve been gifted a teaser of what we might have this summer, presumably if we book a trip to the Costa del Sol.

Or the Algarve.  Which is pretty apt, in fact, because on my last trip to Portugal I got the funniest feeling that the lovely Portuguese were in fact the Irish representatives of the Mediterranean: kind, friendly, easy-going but a lot more tanned and slightly less drunk.

Slightly.

For now, I’m going to make the most of the Irish sunshine and soak up some badly needed vitamin D.  But first, I need a good night’s sleep.

Ciao darlings!

Lizzie xxxx
