Today I’ve realized (again!) how important it is to slow the bleep down, relax and take things slow and steady.
Lately I feel like I’ve been in a whirlwind of Instagram and Facebook and computer screens and photo-editing and the general background electric hum of too much time on technology.
It’s been good on the one hand because I’ve been really productive for the business and I’m getting plenty of writing done too. But still, that underlying current of static that comes on powerfully from things like too much caffeine or stress, can seep into your body and mind far more subtly when you spend too much time working intensely on phones/computers without plenty of grounded quiet/nature time to erase that electric hum.
I finally discovered how wired-up I actually was when I watched a few short videos while eating crisps and cashew nuts. No, not eating, stuffing my face like a mindless zombie.
Even while doing it, I had a feeling I was eating too fast, scoffing frazzled thoughts along with it. Sure enough, a short while later I began to get sharp cramps in my tummy while it valiantly attempted to digest the barely-chewed food and the frenetic energy that had gone into the process of eating it.
I’m a firm believer that you are what you eat and even more so, that you are how you eat. If you eat a pizza slowly, savouring each mouthful, putting your full attention into the meal in front of you and taking all the time in the world to complete it, that food will serve you better than mindlessly scoffing the healthiest fresh salad while watching tv. I would bet my life on it.
Food nourishes us, but so does our mindset. We should try to take as much care over how we eat our meals as we do on what kind of meals we choose.
So I’m reminded strongly by my body that I can’t live wired up and still be healthy and happy. There is very little in life that is more important than your health and it’s not that hard to take care of it, with a little bit of effort.
And I’m not saying to eat pizza every day either, by the way! Eat a healthy fresh salad whenever possible and avoid cheesy, doughy, processed foods except for a rare treat. But whatever you’re putting in your mouth, do it gently and slowly and consciously.
And then you won’t have cramps. Now I’m off to do a few jobs and then take a break from technology.
Ciao darlings!
