It seems at last that the snow saga has come to an end, in Cork at least, if not for all of Ireland.
I’m relieved to get back to normal routine. All this madness meant despite having extra time on my hands I didn’t get a lot of work done, instead spending a lot of time playing in the white winter wonderland.
Besides business stuff, Alex and I headed into town today for the first time since the Beast from the East threw the entire nation into chaos.
We tried out a relatively new cafe, “Soma”, which had amazing coffee and food but a gloomy stark interior that felt slightly depressing. Painted in dark grey, with no pictures or soft chairs or anything to lighten the mood, the minimalist effect was a little somber for me.
We rounded off our little trip by heading back to the new Vegan cafe, “Earth” which once again delivered on seriously satisfying vegan junk food such as a hot dog with ketchup and mustard in a soft bun and the tasty breakfast fry-up.
As they say in Cork, twas savage!
A few years ago, this kind of place would never succeed, but while we were there today it was thriving, packed full and buzzing. Then again, vegan is the buzz-word of the day (it’s like totes trending you know) along with all things fitness related and environmentally sustainable.
It’s heartwarming to see people taking interest in their health and that of the planet. I just worry that should the trend of the day change suddenly, our child-like attention span may get blown off course like a feather in the breeze.
We care as long as we either directly feel the need (if a hurricane hits us and not Haiti) or if enough high-profile people tell us to. Otherwise, we ignore it, preferring to watch Kardashian krap and sell our souls to the 9-5 rat-race system.
It’s all good. Eventually our madness will catch up on us. A few smart ones will survive while the rest of us eat each other.
Well, that’s a fairly depressing ending! On the upside, I’ve had chocolate ice-cream and am ready to read some interesting magazines in bed. And after seeing homeless people in shop doorways today, their bedding damp and dirty, imagining the bitter cold of lying there with no home to go to, my warm cosy bed is something to be immensely grateful for.
Ciao darlings!
