Today I bit the bullet and dove into finally doing something slightly terrifying: I did a live video on Instagram. Go me!
It was of course for our business (www.caralizadesigns.com) and I spent about twenty minutes setting everything up and freaking out beforehand, so that by the time I actually did the live story my hands were shaking and I was all sweaty despite the frigid temperatures outside.
It’s incredible how nervous I get doing a live video-stream. I guess I worry that I’ll say something really stupid, make an ass of myself or that someone will leave a horrible comment and I won’t know how to respond… I could even drop a piece of jewellery and break it! There are so many ways it could all go horribly wrong, it’s so much safer to just record the video and post it later.
But with the challenging new algorithms that Facebook and Instagram are using these days, if you want anyone at all to see your page you’ve got to pull out the big guns, feel the fear and fucking go for it!
And you know what, it went totally fine. I hid my face and just showed off the jewellery (and some bare nails because I’m a silly goose and picked off my beautiful purple shellac and I’m STILL waiting for the damaged bits to grow out!) and for a first proper live-stream (I’ve done a couple before in private groups whereas this was visible to the entire Insta-world) I was proud as punch of how well it went. My hands did shake a little uncontrollably at one point which made focusing the camera tricky but feck it – I’m still delighted.
If I’m going to do this regularly though, I’ll need to find a way to stay a little calmer; I needed around half an hour to unwind after today’s video. The wild adrenaline rush had me wired like a coke-up Duracell bunny and that can’t be good for the body.
For now though, I’m happy and relaxed and ready to get my last few jobs done, make a cup of rooi bos tea and go to bed with a good book and my hot water bottle (otherwise known as Alex).
Ciao darlings!
