Lazy Sundays… I’ve never experienced a better one.
I spent a lot of my morning in bed reading a brand new book by the wonderful Marian Keyes (one of the few authors almost guaranteed to always make me laugh out loud and whose take on life is rich and authentic and utterly hilarious) followed by some restyling of my new hair-cut (the new fringe is gone already – I’m a disaster I know!) followed by a trip into town with Alex.
First stop: Earth Cafe, Cork’s newest vegan eatery.
Poor Alex, I mean he happily agreed to try it out and I did warn him I had no idea what the coffee was like (we’re both a bit snobby when it comes to coffee).
But when we went in and ordered a cappuccino and the waiter asked what kind of milk Alex wanted, I suddenly realized my mistake.
In sweet innocence, he answered “normal milk” before I gently pointed out that there was no normal milk… Alex bravely plowed on and ordered cashew nut milk instead while I wriggled with guilt inside for making him come.
As it turns out, Alex is now quite fond of tofu sausages and cashew nut milk cappuccinos. Our visit to the quirky little cafe was in fact a hit and no animals were harmed in the process. Score.
We wandered around town and ended up at Cork Coffee Roasters for some more coffee and to catch up with an old friend I hadn’t seen in ages. He rocked up a little late, rough and rugged from a heavy Saturday night and we spent the next several hours in tears laughing at his sharp sarcasm and biting jokes followed by strolling through town in baltic winds that whipped my scraggly fringe out of its clips and pierced through my impractical (but totes gorge) navy coat.
We lunched on mouth-watering Rocket Man falafel wraps and then Alex popped into Leonidas, the fancy chocolate shop next door.
Three times I had to tell him I didn’t want any (I did of course, but I’m still trying to be good).
“Buy some for yourself, but don’t get any for me.”
Do you think he listened? We walked away five minutes later with him opening a sizeable quantity of rich creamy white chocolates and offering me twice until I finally yelled at him!
And so my afternoon/evening no-sugar plan is still going strong, despite Alex practically stuffing sweets in my mouth. Wonder woman seems to be back in action folks.
Right now however, I’m literally itching to get back into the latest tale by Marian Keyes, despite having spent the morning and evening devouring her book. Or maybe because of that; books are like Pringles to me, once I pop, I can’t stop.
But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, you can’t get fat from reading… unless of course you literally can’t stop and you’re eating an entire box of Pringles at the same time.
Ciao darlings!
