Notebooks and Journals and Stickers – Oh My! (Day 9)

(Day 9)

I get excited by pretty things: pretty stickers, pictures, buttons, notebooks – especially notebooks; TK Maxx and Waterstones are dangerous shops for me to enter.

It’s the same story when I’m in an Art shop, ruffling through quirky stickers and badges, sweet purple feathers, glossy decorated pages…

There is one serious problem with amassing all these lovely little treasures however: I have immense trouble doing anything with them because they’re so perfectly gorgeous that I want what I make from them to be equally perfect.

And of course in the creative world, it’s highly probable that the things you make won’t be perfect – not even close.

The same with my journals; they’re so lovely they can’t be used for just any old scribbles (ha – pardon the pun!) like ‘to do’ lists in scrawly handwriting or the drivel of my boring diary entries…

They should be filled with wise words and interesting ideas in pristine handwriting.

Impossible? Yup.

first card -playing around without a plan

In an attempt to rectify matters, I have temporarily banned myself from buying anymore journals as I force myself to work my way through the five new empty ones sitting quietly on my desk.

And tonight I took the plunge and made two cards out of my stash of cut-outs, stickers and bits and bobs. It made me feel like a little kid back in art class. It was great! And I was actually pleased with the results.

second card – favourite city

So it’s back to being a kid again – messy, playful, creative. None of this perfect nonsense – there’s no fun in perfect!

Ciao darlings!
